I'd say I like AILD mostly because of the genre they play, i.e. melodic metalcore. But on their last three albums they've pretty much proved to be the genre's best. They are certainly the most consistent for being able to put out three albums in a row that are absolutely breathtaking. More than anything I think they are the most well-rounded as musicians and songwriters of any of the melodic metalcore bands. Parkway Drive and Unearth are too hardcore oriented and All That Remains is too melodic and mainstream. AILD is the band most effective at using melody without undermining the basic brutality of their music, and in addition to their more hardcore leanings, they consistently bring elements of thrash and melodeath to the table. The guitarists are beasts, their drummer is disgusting, and Tim Lambesis is an absolute monster on vocals.

In my personal opinion an ocean between us is my favorite AILD album.

Shadows are security is my favorite album by them by far.

Well I just listened to a whole shit load of AS LAY DYING as well ass ALL THAT REMAINS. They each have some elements that i like and don't like. and there music has a lot more melody than i was giving them credit for i guess but what it really comes down to is these bands just don't get me off lol. I hear slipknot especially old slipknot or motorhead or exodus or lamb of god and they just catch my ear and this music just doesn't do it for me!!! No offense to people that likew them but it seems very bland and generic to me. Again just my opinion who agrees and who disagrees? oh and I fucking hate AILD vocals.

But really like his vocal work in Austrean Death Machine!!!

yo if you like ADM don't start with an ocean between us. too many cleans probably for your liking. def listen to Shadows Are Security first that album kills. through struggle, losing sight, empty hearts, confined, the control is dead, fuck dude the whole album rips.

You made this thread saying you can't see how people like them, but really, I don't see how you can NOT like them. I'm just going off of how you put things, your grammar, and opinions, but it seems like you're just pretty young, dude. As I Lay Dying fucking rocks. They have to be one of the best melodic metal-core bands still out now, and for the most part, they're pretty fucking consistent on what they want their sound to be. As for opinions on why I like them, they're just awesome. Their instrumentals kick ass (the guitar being the highlight of the music, for me), and the vocals are killer. Thinking Tim's vocals are better on ADM? Dude, they're about the fucking same. I don't understand. In my opinion, it just seems like you don't really want to get into them, and you are actively trying to not like them, and with that attitude you certainly won't. They put on great shows live, and their lyrics have to be some of the most insightful I've ever seen. It's not all rage and love and whiny emotion. It's well put out feeling that I think you're trying to discredit to not like them. That's just my take on this entire thread.

Been listening to this band since the early days, and to me, bands like this(early wave of metalcore) are the perfect mix of mainstream, and more underground forms of metal. I like both, so bands that can mix both sides sound like gold to me. another example is killswitch.(although aild is heavier than them) To me the best part of the band is the riffs/melodies as you seem to think is lacking. Theres probably more to it but those are The two big things I think of, when I think of why I like this band. Also Tim has a new band called Pyrithion. Its supposed to be straight death metal. I too love austrian death machine...best idea ever, cant wait for their new cd.
