i know this has been done to death but i've been following ticketmaster locations for most hard rock and metal shows for a while and these areas have the most a year on average: Chicago, Denver, Tampa, Boston, New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, and pretty much the state of california.

Not much of a surprise. Much of the most populated non-Southern cities.

I disagree with Tampa, it seems like Florida get's completely shafted sometimes. I think Texas get's a lot of shows compared to most states, seems like most tours have 2 dates.

Chicago and california are the places to be right now for metal. Denver has a good scene too, but Chicago takes the cake from what i could tell.

weird thing about the PNW is that tons of metal shows come here... but they don't always come to seattle. almost all tours come through either Seattle,Portland, or Vancouver B.C. it is like the music industry puts these three city's on a board and throws a dart to see who gets the show. not a big issue since i live in almost equidistance between portland and Vancouver so if it is not in seattle it is only 3hrs to the other to destinations.
You tried hard and you failed. Moral of the story is never try.
