I know it's a pretty underground current of metal, but there's gotta be SOMEWHERE where it's gained some significant popularity. Anyone know of anywhere in particular?
Fuck off emos.

The South. Home of Mastadon, Red Fang, Crowbar, Baroness, Haarp, Royal Thunder, Kylesa and the mighty Pallbearer. Atlanta is home to most of these bands...

Red Fang is from Oregon. There's quite a few on the southern east coast, but Most of the pioneers of the sound or the first wave of the bands were from west coast and Louisiana. High on Fire, Eyehategod, Melvins, Kyuss, Saint Vitus were all from west coast. Down, Crowbar, Acid Bath etc were from louisiana. And several from england

Definitely the south. I go to school in Nashville, and really the only metal scene is the stoner/sludge/doom/noise/drone scene.
