Whether you like metallica or not is all opinion. I personally like them but I know slaytanic does not. I respect that. But either way Im going to go to this fest if they have a lineup similar to last year based on variety. They had black dahlia murder and modest mouse so they are trying to get different crowds of ppl (like mayhem to an extent). Im just happy that they aew bringing a festival like this to the state's since they haven't done a tour since 09.

I would go to this if it were closer to me, but its not so oh well. I personally lover metallica's 1st 5 albums, and really enjoyed death magnetic. Thats me tho. I think everyone needs to keep in mind that often times the bands that people bash on boards like these are actually a very very small percentage of the people you will actually see at the shows.

Only a 4 hour ride for me so I'm all over it. And I MUCH prefer outdoor shows to sitting in an arena. Really like the festival type of an atmosphere. I like the indoor smaller clubs - say 1000-1500 in attendance. The older I get, the more I dislike the 20,000 seat hockey/basketball arena's to see a show. I'm so glad Rush is playing at my local outdoor amphitheatre versus the local indoor arena. I think outdoor festivals are the most enjoyable shows there are.
It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.

Lol slaytanic you are making stuff up now just drop it... I'm friends with a guy who works for Metallica and guess what, they don't hate touring the united states..... Orion fest? Metallica lost money on it last year, and now they're doing another one? Hmmm... Oh and the 30 year anniversary shows they did in California where they charged 30 bucks a ticket and got metal legends to come play with them? Metallica personally paid out of pocket to make that show happen... Now that doesn't sound like a sellout band to me but hey that's just me

Don't kid yourself, they are making tons of money. One frustrating thing about them is that they will do something really cool for their fans every once in a while.

But did they sellout, of course they did. They went from a band who said fuck the radio, fuck mtv. To writing the black album specifically for airplay. They are all about the miney now. if they love playing here, how come they don't do it much anymore. But they always take the overseas festival money

They didn't make the black album for more Airplay, they made it because they didn't want to make and justice for all part 2

So I have to now pose this inquiry. If Metallica are sellouts for changing their sound, does that make Led Zeppelin the greatest sellout band for basically changing their sound from album to album?

They basically sanitized theirself in order to appeal to a broader audience. Most of us who say they $oldout, were the true early fans of that band and we couldnt believe it when they went from thrash to basically a hard rock. Not to mention that thing they like to, you know filing lawsuits.
