So I was wondering what my next step is in my journey into the industry. I have promoted for bands, including suicide silence as well as alot of locals, I have booked local shows in my area. I have done set up and breakdown tech for Aaron Gillespie's solo show as well as for locals. I've been called out of school(when i was in HS) to work for my local theatre doing set up and breakdown for some really big theatrical acts as well as sound and lightboard and stage management(sometimes having to learn the whole show just hours before hand. I met Kevin Lyman once in 2011 and had this conversation with him and he said im on the right track, but unfortunately he was called away to do something before he could tell me my next step. I was in a special charter school and have won various awards for my technical designs. Anyway I was hoping you could help me figure out my next step as ive heard schooling wont help much. Thank you very much Slaytanic, I appreciate the help.

i went to college for 4 years and got a degree. it was a help as far as what im doing now. but it took along time to get here lots of hoops. i started with any!!!! internship i could get . i worked for free all through college be it at raido stations, helping with setup at local clubs, the mail room at capital records, sweeping floors , being a gofer at recording sessions. but i was also fortunate enough to have an uncle who was an executive at casablanca. after college they hired me and i did promo work for awile. i was able to get on as a roadie for the kiss anamalize tour. network network network. when casablanca went down i was able to get on with geffen. the pr work was always fun for me so thats the path i chose.they had me do a shitload of small shity tours in nowhwhere towns for years, and my contacts just got better and better. hell man im 43 now i missed alot of time with my kids growing up.but it has been great. it sounds as if you have already planted a seed with kevin. press it . they hire warped roadies every year man and he is a great guy that will give you an opprotunity to grow. yeah you may have to start on the bottom but just get your foot in the door. if you can put up with all the shit they put you through, then kick it open. never stop networking and get your name out there. john reese runs @rockstarenergymayhemfest and is harder to get in touch with.i would get with mr. lyman and get your ass on warped asap. hope that helps try to touch base with any of the other contacts you have made if you dont wanna go the warped route, and network yourself and climb up the ladder. no job is to small or shity. and there will be ALOT of them.

Denis, it helps. You're telling the record label who you are and what you want to do. ALWAYS find a back-up. Metalgod666, keep going. Takes a very long time to do. You can't pull a Greg and start a record label right off the bat. Doing things like that is how you fail. Just look at Greg, for example. Anyways, regardless of how many contacts you're making (and you're making a lot), ALWAYS have a back-up plan. Hell, a lot of people would laugh at you if you DON'T have a back-up plan. Which is why we all laugh at Greg.

And the label is going to crash/burn within 6 months. A good way to run it would be to have 2 in-house lawyers because that would be less expensive than paying an outside lawer. And, pretty much, in house everything that can be hired from an outside company. Spend about 1/2 of what you would by hiring outside companies to do that work. And you're able to have a full staff. That's what Ash Avildsen does for Sumerian. It took only 3 years (2006-2009) from from packaging mail-order CD's in his apartment to having a 2-story office w/ a full staff. Tell the founder that he should CONSIDER (I'm just suggesting, it's his label, he can do what he wants with it) doing something like that.

First of all the labels been around 2+ years already. And u dont know the founder or vice president, they have connections with lawyers and they themselves are experienced with legal stuff, so dont assume

Oooooo connections with lawyers. that sounds even better than having them on staff. Just stop greg. if you or rekkr or who ever else on your "label" make it anywhere we will all be shocked. at that point we will all eat crow and you can run you mouth. until then why don't you just shut the fuck up about your "label" and we can all go back to talking predictions and having actual discussions about metal and the industry. most people don't care about each others personal interest or who they know etc... hey i know a bunch of MLB players do you think anybody really gives a shit about that? probably not, so why don't you do yourself and us a favor and stop talking about your "label". it has nothing to do with any of these threads and i think you will find out the less you talk about it the less people will mock it.
You tried hard and you failed. Moral of the story is never try.
