Need advice from veterans: I've never attended the Mayhem Festival before and would like to take my 12 year old son to Devore. I read that the lawn seats are bad because of the plastic fumes. What does that mean?Does the pit get too crazy? (My son is a little guy so I've had to spend entire concerts trying to hold the pit crowd back. OK for 1 headliner -but ridiculous for 3 bands.) Does it make sense to get a regular seat? Generally, I have no interest in sitting at a concert. I mean really - why go?Any other advice?

If your taking your kid to mayhem fest it would probly be best to get a seat. Sometimes the people in the pit get a little crazy on the lawn and the whole night they're burning plastic and shit and your kid doesn't need to breathe that shit. If you have a lawn seat with a kid and want to keep him safe you'd have to stay in the back which the view isn't bad but far away. Having a seat would be perfect so he can see the show and be safe. I'm taking my 9 year old brother this year and that's what I'm doing.
Lets just rock out, fuck who's playing!

Yes - we had the front row for Slipknot which was awesome but I couldn't enjoy the concert because I was so busy blocking the crowd. Why are people burning plastic on the lawn? How are open fires allowed? I also read that the lawn can get rough. I'll take your advice and get a regular seat.

The lawn fires have been a long tradition at since ozzfest. They get away with it because it is easier to let drunk people have a few bonfires than try to stop them. They burn anything they can to keep the fires going. I would definitely suggest a seat. Yes a seat is less enjoyable, but it overall enjoyment worth the inhalation of plastic? Also to further persuade you away from the lawn. Last year I saw a few fights and some guy got his tooth knocked out. Also, my group of friends were the victims of a surprised crackle bomb attack. I would say get seats off the edge of the pit.
