...like there are a lot of narrow minded people on the board. Me, personally, I don't care what other people think. I like my music. but if i happen to disagree that metal core is in fact metal...then I’m a dumb cunt. well...I think that’s wrong. its not so much the name calling, but rather the fact that someone thinks they have the right to tell me what i listen is good or bad, or i am a 'cunt' because i think the way i do. i always thought of rock music as a way to say fuck you to the rest of the world. we don’t give a shit what you think, watch us head-bang. etc etc. but if you're calling someone [a fellow metal listener] a 'cunt' how is that any different than someone who buys their clothes from ab&f telling someone because they bought their shoes at target that their trash? its no different. you're doing what you are trying go against. like i said, its not the name calling that bothers me, its more of the principal. I accept everyone. [lol that sounded weird] i don’t care if you like creed [because i DESPISE them] as long as you don’t force me to listen to them, its all good. i cant seem to get through my head why people are so narrow-minded, and stuck on the fact that people should listen to this or their posers. if you listen to the stuff [this includes rap and whatever] that makes YOU happy, because YOU like it, then to me, you're not a poser. if you are listening to it because YOUR friends are, then you are. i listen to anything that makes me happy. i LOVE metallica {new and old!} but at the same time i LOVE papa roach. i don’t care. if i think its good, I’m going to listen to it. i just think there’s a lot of people who are hypocritical on this board. I'm not trying to bring on any smart-ass comments from people who want to name call. I'm higher than that. if you want to make a actual comment on your thoughts, please do...i would love to hear what others think, but not if your going to be a jerk about it. I’m not trying to stir the pot, I’m just tired of people being narrow minded, and thinking that I should only listen to what they consider ‘TRUE METAL’ you know what…MAYBE I DON’T WANT TO!! Maybe I want to listen to metal core!!!!!!! This is freaking America for gods sake…now someone is going to say, well if its America then they care voice their opinion about what they think of you…no that’s not what that means, name calling is NEVER okay. Lets act a little more mature than that. If you can’t have a civilized conversation than you need to have NO conversation at all. I think we’re all adults…so lets act like it?!

it might sound or read silly but im starting to like you :P Ppl on various boards of all sorts, well there will be ppl that will be nutty and will sound off on their own opinions. It happens and the ones that know betta will just overlook it and will continue the good metal fight while others continue their self-centered own world thoughts. Gotta love it.

I think it's more that the Abercrombie crowd is now hanging around in our Target because Target is now carrying the brand. All the people who shop at Target because those $2 shirts are all they can afford are pissed off that some rich jackoff is now walking around saying they got their clothes at Target because to them, "I shop at Target" means "I'm poor". Now they feel displaced and they're afraid Target will become another Nordstrom and then they won't be able to go to Target anymore to get their clothes.
If these so-called "Metalcore" bands take over Mayhemfest, then unless Ozzfest (Wal-Mart) pulls out of the gutter, we're fucked. We will have run out of stores to shop at and we'll have to wait for a new one to open up...but even if one does, chances are it'll turn out the same way Target did. Keep your Metalcore (Abercrombie) at Warped Tour (Abercrombie store), and leave Mayhemfest (Target) alone. Those of us who find it atrocious that people are calling this pop-rock-turned-screamo "Metal" don't want it anywhere near us. We are offended by it and we are afraid it is going to infect the real metal scene and tarnish the word "Metal" just like bands like Offspring, Sum 41, and Good Charlotte did to the word "Punk". /endrant |

Not all Metalcore is terrible, and I do like some of All That Remains, and Walls of Jericho does a decent live show though I can't say I'm a fan of them on CD. However, if you read the [A HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalcore"]Metalcore Wiki[/A], it says "Other notable metalcore bands include Haste the Day, Parkway Drive, Bring Me the Horizon, Darkest Hour, Caliban, Bleeding Through, August Burns Red, Demon Hunter, It Dies Today, The Devil Wears Prada, Unearth, and The Autumn Offering." I think there's a big difference comparing TDWP & Norma Jean to ATR, WoJ, and even Parkway Drive. It's almost like two separate genres.

I think some of the bands classified as Metalcore by today's standards should really be put under pop rock, and I feel like the sole reason that the word "Metal" appears at all is because their "vocalist" is screaming into the microphone [A HREF="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define:unintelligible"]unintelligibly[/A] and to people that don't know metal (and don't care to learn), that's all metal is. It's like how Led Zeppelin is "devil music" to some of our grandparents/parents, or how body modification is just plain wrong. IMO, they get invited to the festivals because they're run for profit and they attract a different fanbase (scene kids). Think Venn Diagram with Metal and Scene as the two circles. If they only bring Metal bands, they get the Metal circle. If they tack on a few of these scene bands they get the non-overlapped portion of the second circle. You happen to be one of the overlapping individuals and we're more afraid of the people that are just scene.
